8 Day Coastal Explorer

DAY 1: ARRIVE CHRISTCHURCH
Welcome to Christchurch. Visit the International Antarctic Center—a “must see”
experience. Overnight: Christchurch, The Elms (standard), Copthorne Central Hotel (first
class) or Millennium Hotel (deluxe)

DAY 2: CHRISTCHURCH—MT COOK—DUNEDIN
Travel across the Canterbury Plains to Mt Cook and on to Dunedin. Overnight: Kingsgate
Hotel Dunedin (standard), Scenic Circle Dunedin City Hotel (first class) or Southern Cross
Hotel (deluxe) for 2 nights

DAY 3: DUNEDIN
Board the double-decker bus for a tour of Dunedin’s historic sights. Later, enjoy a tour of
the Otago Peninsula including the Royal Albatross Colony (seasonal).

DAY 4: DUNEDIN—QUEENSTOWN
Board the Taieri Gorge Train and enjoy the rugged landscape and sights. Journey to
Pukerangi, then on to Queenstown. Overnight: Queenstown, Kingsgate Hotel Terraces
(standard), Copthorne Lakefront (first class) or Heritage Hotel (deluxe) for 3 nights

DAY 5: MILFORD SOUND DAY EXCURSION
Travel along the shores of Lake Wakatipu to Te Anau, gateway to the Fiordland National
Park. Experience a Milford Sound Cruise before returning to Queenstown.

DAY 6: QUEENSTOWN
A free day to enjoy the many adventure activities. Ask for details on the selection of
things to see and do.

DAY 7: QUEENSTOWN—FRANZ JOSEF
Travel north today and enjoy the rugged West Coast scenery through the Haast Pass.
Continue to Franz Josef. We suggest an optional scenic glacier flight (own expense,
weather permitting). Overnight: Franz Josef, Franz Josef Glacier Hotel, Graham Wing
(standard and first class) or Douglas Wing (deluxe)

DAY 8: FRANZ JOSEF—TRANZALPINE TRAIN— CHRISTCHURCH
Travel to Greymouth and board the TranzAlpine Train. Traverse the Southern Alps and
travel across the Canterbury Plains to Christchurch.
