Hunter Valley & Blue Mountains Three Day Experience Tour Length: 3 Days Tour Code: ALE 5086 Min No of Passengers: 2 Inclusions: Hotel pick up and drop off, experienced and knowledgeable driver, country-style morning teas, lunch days two and three, informative winery tours and tastings, dinner on night one, all entry fees, guide expenses. Day 1 - This relaxing 3-day experience is simply the best way to enjoy the fine wines, fabulous food, and beautiful countryside of the Hunter Valley and Blue Mountains. After picking you up at the airport we head towards the city so that you can see a skyline famous throughout the world. We then head over the Sydney Harbour Bridge and head North. The journey to the Hunter Valley follows a historic trail dating back to the very first arrivals into this area. We cross the mighty Hawkesbury River passing through rugged sandstone country of Ku-ring- gai National Park, before continuing along the old convict built road, retracing the hardships of the early settlers who first came to this area. Crossing over the Great Dividing Range we make our way down into Pokolbin; the heart of wine making in the Hunter Valley. We will stop for lunch somewhere en route (optional and not included) and enjoy some local produce. We begin our wine tasting in the picturesque Mt. View area, which has numerous boutique wineries, some of which only sell their prized produce from the cellar door. Our first stop is at Ivanhoe wines. Stephen being a fifth generation Drayton, has had the knowledge of vineyards and winemaking handed down from father to son for over 140 years. With his valuable experience in the vineyard and winery, Stephen and his wife Tracy continue the Ivanhoe tradition. The cellar door is a modern day replica of the original Ivanhoe homestead with an underground cellar housing the museum wines. The majority of the vineyard on Ivanhoe is over 40 years old. You will sample a range of their best. We then end the day with a comprehensive tasting and tour of Tyrrells Winery. The best of Tyrrell's Hunter wines are produced from these vineyards in the heart of the Lower Hunter Valley. These are all non-irrigated, 'dry grown' vineyards, dependant entirely on the 750mm of rainfall a year. Not only will you have a private tasting here but also have an extensive tour of the winery itself. After a couple of hours relaxing, our guide will then escort you to the Hunter Resort for dinner. Here you will have some tasting platters with a different glass of wine married to each course. Each different wine will have full tasting notes and will be a wonderful way to finish your first day. Day 2 - After a leisurely breakfast we make our way to De Bortolis winery. The refurbished cellar door is a welcoming, contemporary space where you can taste superb wines from the Hunter Valley and Black Creek wine ranges as well as Museum wines, Winemaker's Selection and Individual Vineyard wines including Murphy's Vineyard Semillon and Wills Hill Vineyard Shiraz all made by our winemaker Scott Stephens. Our last winery stop is Bimbadgen Estate before continuing on to lunch at Margans. Here you will get served with exquisite shared platters consisting of local produce and beautiful delicacies. If it is a nice day we will sit on the balcony and unwind after a busy morning of tastings before getting into the vehicle and heading cross country towards the Blue Mountains. Soon the scenery changes from open vineyards to lush wilderness. You will be at your accommodation early evening in time to get yourself to dinner. Day 3 - Our last day starts after a leisurely breakfast. We will concentrate on leaving the ‘average’ Blue Mountains tourist behind and experiencing the National Park, unlocking a piece of Australia you would never have known existed. We visit ancient Aboriginal sites and outstanding lookouts, examine rock formations and the unusual plants and wildlife that abound the area. There will be an abundance of photographic opportunities for you to explore whilst our guide fully interprets the area and the history around you. We enjoy a delicious barbecue lunch including a selection of fine Australian wines and cheeses under the canopy of the Australian bush. We travel the short distance to Scenicworld and board the World’s steepest incline railway. Descend 415m down the escarpment at a gradient of 52 degrees travelling through the tunnel and ancient rainforest. We will travel around the boardwalk and explore the valley floor looking out for possums and echidnas whilst also looking up into the tree canopies for all types of different native birds. Our guide will interpret your surroundings, which will give you a distinct advantage of appreciating all you see. On our return we skirt around Cliff Drive to where you will find yourself looking out over the magnificent Jamieson Valley & the Three Sisters & continue onto the quaint little village of Leura. Late in the afternoon, we drop into a hidden Valley, surrounded by the Eastern Grey kangaroo’s that graze in the wild (Conditions permitting), before dropping finally into Featherdale Wildlife Park. This gives you the unique opportunity to get up close to some of the most well known native animals of Australia. These include such delights as the Koala, Wombat and Dingo. A great way to end what will be three of your most memorable days in Australia. |
